I acquiried my FJR1300-AE in June and have put on 2.5k. I love the bike, the YCCS functions flawlessly. I came off a 2004 FJR and feel differences; although the bike is 40lbs heavier it feels more agile but you can definately feel the taller gearing, frankly the bike feels like a 4-speed with an overdrive. I'm still trying to figure out whick setup I like more. If I had my druthers I prefer the older setup with a 6th gear since the lower gearing had more power off the line.
Here's my problem:
Since you can only take the transmission out of gear (neutral)when you're stopped what happens if you loose engine power (fuel or electronics) while in motion? My assumption is that you would get thrown from the bike since there's no instant way to disengage the clutch like on a normal bike. The updated user manual claims that you can manually activate the shift actuator if the bike is stopped, b-t-w I've tried it and it's doesn't work but I'm concerned about moving at high velocity in let's say 3rd gear and you loose engine power. I've spoken to Yamaha and they don't have a satisfactory answer.
