...I decided to try adjusting my suspension for the first time yesterday, following the directions (so I thought) in the owners manual and with some of the information from the web (there's an excellent article out there devided into "Days" that people have referenced) and posts on this forum.
Anyway, the front rebound damping doesn't have a specific picture in the manual, and I mis-interpretted the compression damping picture as showing both. So, I start to turn the nut that the compression damping screw is housed within, thinking that was the compression damping knob. Since I wasn't real sure (it didn't look right), I took it slow, and turned it about 30 degrees before I knew that something wasn't right. Going back to the service manual, I see I was sadly mistaken.
It appears I loosened the "damper rod assembly bolt" and I just need to retighten to 25ft-lbs (no locktite). Is that correct?
(the nut is flat on only two sides, not a normal six sided one)
btw: I did figure out that the black knob at the top of the forks are the rebound damping one that I wanted in the first place.
