I recently put Dale Walker's headers on my FJR, and it ran horribly with Wally Killburg's map, very lean. I got the map from Dale that he built and it ran quite a bit better but still had some flat spots, especially up top, it felt rich. I am running a K&N filter along with stock pipes, where he had a stock filter and his pipes.
I took my bike to Tejas Yamaha in Highlands Tx, near Baytown today. They have a Dynojet tuning center. They did a base run with Dale's map and we got 122.7 hp with 87.1 ft/lbs of torque. Not bad at all.
He did 3 tuning runs and we got it to 128.3 hp with 90.4 ft/lbs of torque.
They told me that they think they could get more horsepower with Dale's slip-ons but bang for the buck this is really great! 6 hp, 3 ft/lbs increase. The torque numbers are comparable to Hyabusas according to him.
I'm very pleased.
The ride home was FUN! Smooth as glass, feels like a freight train kicking you in the butt when you get into it!
Oh, one more good piece of info. MINE IS NOT A TICKER! I've always wondered, but they had done a valve guide replacement on a FJR and he said mine is definately not ticking. Not with those numbers, and he and I listened for it and did not hear anything. Also, when I replaced the headers there was zero oil in the old headers.
That's with 25,012 miles on it as of when I got home today!
I'll post the map as soon as I can get it off the bike onto my laptop and also will scan in the dyno run.
