I know many of you don't know the name, but Rusty Kay was one of the 'great' collectors of motorcycles (and cars) of our time. He was an immensely successful graphic artist and the income he earned there allowed him to fund his hobby/passion.
Many of the bikes Rusty cared for he restored himself. The quality of work was superior to the extent that many of his bikes were on constant rotation at the Peterson Museum in LA.
I was fortunate to be Rustys next door neighbor for a couple of years and had the opportunity to see some of his rides and had many a lively chat about things automotive and bimotive!
Rusty took ill a while ago with bone cancer. He fought the reaper for a couple of years, but sadly, I was just informed that he finally succumbed to the illness early last month.
Just wanted to say thanks to a man whose passion benefits us all and his need to preserve our heritage will be missed.
God speed, Rusty! Give that old Excelsior a couple of kicks and rip it up behind those Pearly Gates!
