... so I use this one, hope no one minds. I thought I should do a small presentation/introduction of myself, before I start posting and/or give any replies.
I am a 44 year old male, originally from Norway, currently living in Cyprus in the mediterainian ocean. If anyone wonder WHERE is Cyprus, it is a small country (island) positioned SOUTH of Turkey and WEST of Israel. A population of about 700k ain't much, and one of the benefits is VERY low crime rate (we are enjoying it while we can...). Technically the country is in war, the northern part was invaded by Turkey in 1974, and 40% is still is occupied.
On the island there is British bases, which are also used by American military, maybe specially now in the situation that did and do exist in Iraq.
This place ain't exactly the navel of the world, but in general we have a fairly good life here, a bit more RELAXED compared to many other countries
The summer of 2003 a colleague and myself went from Cyprus and to Norway. We went through Greece, Italy, Austria, Germany and Denmark before we arrived in Norway. A total of 8000 km was covered, effectively driving between 550 and 850 km a day, the trip all the way north took 6 days. On the return we had a stop in northern Italy (Ducati country? We did not see many bikes in Italy) which was a very nice area to drive around in. The area we stayed around the Garda lake was excellent, and some of the most 'scariest' roads I ever has driven we found there. I have never experienced 19% climb / fall in a public road before, but we found that alright...
The Yamaha was a dream to drive with, the only 'problem' was the saddle, after 850 km I was missing a LITTLE bit of extra padding... I really ENJOY the power going on the highways through Europe, even if bendy roads are more fun, when covering 8000 km it will be enough time in the saddle anyway...
Other bikes that has been / are in my possession: 1995 Honda VLX 600 Steed (Sold), 1992 Yamaha Virago 750 (Sold), 1992 Kawasaki ZZR-400 (FUN!), 1995 Suzuki Intruder VS 1400 (BRUTE FORCE) and of course 2002 Yamaha FJR-1300 (GREAT FUN!)
Many considder the bike driving in my age being a result of a need to be young. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and so am I: I have bikes as hobby of several reasons (not to feel "young"), one is that I could never afford one in my younger days, second was that IF I had one in my twenties the chances being able to write this would have been limited (I LOOOOVE speed, but nowadays I really try to THINK first and have a better ability to calculate potential risks) and it is a great social bond between bikers, for me a 'newly' discovered fact.
Ok, that should be enough for me for this time. I don't know if it's normal to do any presentations / introduction of yourselves on this site, but I have been 'properly' trained on my other member sites
