The problem isn't the outside of the hilt rubbing against the wider portion of the VC near the clamping mechanism. I trimmed that down for clearance already. It's the hinge pin (located opposite the clamp portion) sticking out too far causing too much friction against the hilt at that point. There is a noticable deflection of the hilt rubber as it moves across the hinge.

So far, I havn't been able to make a larger gap between the throttle housing and the grip. If I can increase that distance by a mm or so I'll be fine.

Hmmm, maybe I'm expecting too much. Should there be completely free play of the throttle, as if the VC wasn't even installed? Or does everybody experience some resistance? When I took mine out around the block with the VC on, I was very uncomfortable with the throttle action. And if that's just the way it is with the VC, I'll look into something different.
